Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on court had caused some to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent saved 4 early break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
